Welcome

When I was deciding whether or not to undergo a microdiscectomy/laminectomy, I googled a lot. Much of the material I found was clinical and a little boring, and the personal accounts weren't the most helpful. Either they blogged a little about their surgery then never updated (Did the operation kill them? Did they ever recover?) or they went online to complain about how it didn't work. I wanted the facts of course, but surely a surgery with such a high success rate couldn't have just bad outcomes. Right?

This is why I decided to start this blog -- to document my recovery after my surgery for myself, as well as to provide some new material for those googling the procedure. I anticipate my story to be a very positive one.

  1. It is so nice to read your blog. My husband just had his microdiscectomy and is ready to be released. He is still in lot of pain even after the medications. Your log helped me to relate what is going to happen next.

  2. I'm so glad. Best of luck. The odds are very much in your hubby's favor to have a successful recovery, don't be afraid by what horror stories you read online. Good luck! :)

  3. I just found your blog and am so glad I did. I have had cancer twice with the whole chemo surgery and radiation package so I'm no wimp. But after excruiating pain I was finally diagnosed with a disk herniation. It's miserable and has been way worse then cancer. It's been life altering and not in a good way. Mine is a thoracic herniation and surgery is not an option so I am fumbling through trying to find ways to survive...and stay positive. I love that your blog is so upbeat. I've tried PT, meds, injections, chiro, massage, acupuncture but I'm still having severe pain and I want my life back. I used to be so active and I miss it. I'm going to try swimming...just started so am praying it works. Wish me luck. PS how are you now?

  4. Thanks for the nice note. I am doing good, still not perfect. I slack on exercise but vow to do better. I will update soon with an entry. Hurt my back about once every 10 months but it heals. Best of luck to you, I know its hard. And noone truly understands unless they have been there, even doctors. Keep your head up. It might not be easy but it will get better for you. The body wants to heal. Keep as positive as you can and that will work wonders. Feel better and dont get discouraged. You can get through this!
